| How long was your exposure? Third one wins in my opinion. | |

| Definitely like the 3rd one. It looks like the lightning is coming into a clear, blue sky. | |

| Thanks, you kind bunch of bastards Seth, that looks pretty rad. is that an app that makes it look vintage and spooky? Chris, the exposure was about 2-2.5 seconds. i was using my remote and a tripod. on another note, check out this ring flash that I am making: http://www.motleypixel.com/forum/index.php/topic,80.0.html . i'm waiting on a synch cord to come in the mail, everything else is finished. i'm using it to take photos of the K2 Varsity skates for my magazine for a review I am doing, and also some portrait work/food photos i am bidding on. not to mention, i'll be using it when my baby boy is born in October. should get some interesting shots | |

| Very interesting, That ring flash looks like it will take amazing photos. Is the purpose to spread the light more evenly and softly. I don't even have an external flash so I can't currently try anything like that. Still kudos for taking it to the next level. | |

yes, it softens the shadows by expanding the range of the flash. here's a sample shot i took as soon as i finished bending the steel bracket everything is connected to. it's not 100% ready to go, but i rigged it up to get a snap. the room was pitch black: shutter speed was 1/500, the flash was at 1/4 power, f/10 at 55mm, ISO 400.i'm going to use a black fabric drop cloth to eliminate any background shadows, the ring flash does not get rid of them entirely unless you have some ambient light helping you out.
here's a picture of the setup taken on my Samsung Eternity, sorry for the quality, I can only fix it so much in Photoshop: | |
